To someone not a scientist

Stuff not understood is dismissed.

So scientists in general are shy

To preach data and theory why

One degree warmer of our planet

May kill billions or all life on it.

Measurements agree, the evidence is strong

Apocalypse is near, little chance its wrong.

The stakes are too great

To prevaricate.

They say that our maximum range

Is ten years to implement change.

Do YOU gamble billions of lives away

The sun was warming up the sea

The sea rose to new height

And people living in lands low

Were panicking in fright.

The moon without an atmosphere

It watched as Earthlings fried.

New energy sources must exist

When Martha’s egg met Jacob’s seed
A baby they did sire.
They called him Fred and some folk said
He’d be a real live wire.
A leader he could grow to be,
A new Messiah.

Soon after weaning Fred began
His genius to display,
Such was his fame that people came
To hear things he would say.
And things he said would later spread
Far, far away.

Fred said we should protect the strong
And send the weak to war
But men are wise, (so they surmise)
They send the strong to war,
The weak are freed to sow their seed
At any door.

Fred preached a strange philosophy
Life should be like a spark
All creatures teach, though without speech
They die and leave no mark
Death without fame leaves Earth the same
 As when they came.

But people laughed at things Fred said
They wanted power and wealth
They cut down trees, out-fished the seas
And poisoned people’s health
Their thoughtless creed was fueled by greed
Each for himself

Disasters came and millions died
When homes were lost to flood
Expanding seas, widespread disease
Rivers red with blood
The poor faced hell, the rich did well
Out of the crud.

The folk who lived when others died
Remembered things he said
Many who died, they realized
He could have saved instead.
As he was odd they made him God
And worshipped Fred.
